Goals

  1. To let the students explore a science or math project of their own design, and
  2. To see how authoring on the Web could be used to enhance interest and excitement for working on a project.

Initially, we thought the best approach to our hands-on exploration would be for students to design a project using LEGO/logo. Dean has a great deal of experience helping students with this, (see his Lego/Logo page.), but as we have progressed and learned the limitations of the time and tools available to us, we came to focus more on the Internet and authoring. Eventually, we allowed the students to choose their own topics.

We hoped to let students "mess about" for a bit before they actually composed. However, we find ourselves driving them more than we would have expected. Pressed for time, we are anxious for some kind of product, though one of us (Dean) sees that the answer to many problems is to extend the project beyond our due dates (self-imposed and class imposed) and continue the project until the end of the semester.

We did have some strategies for going forward with the time we had.
