According to the Oxford dictionary writing, is a method of human communication by means of visual marks that form a system. The Time Line Prehistoric Times - Cave Paintings During the prehistoric times (40,000 - 1000 BC), when human beings were evolving, paintings and drawings were one of the few means of communications. Man carved what he saw on stone walls, clay tablets, and other surfaces. It is just amazing how these cave painting and seals tell us so much about the lives of the people living in prehistoric times. I personally feel that the development of writing as a means of communication took place when man was trying to convey some kind of a message to others or to himself by these paintings. These paintings are now mistakenly considered as an art form rather than a means of communication.
These paintings tell a story, which is filled with so much power and emotion that sometimes people, like me, cannot put that much emotion onto paper and words. I think the development of symbols as a means of communication was the beginning of the education system, which since then has grown into a fully developed communication network. Now there are so many different set patterns forming languages that we have become so used them that it is like a second nature to us. With the development of the computer systems and the electronic mails, this transferring of messages wouldn't have been possible without the development of the symbols thousands of years ago.
2009 - Personal Access and Display Device (PADD)
People have always been trying to foretell the future, Gene Roddenberry, creator of "Star Trek," has used different kinds of technological devices that have fascinated thousands of people, like me, into really believing that these devices are actually possible. In "Star Trek" the development of the Personal Access and Display Device (PADD) has been one of the greatest spurs of crew members' ease of work and functionality in their shipboard tasks. In one of the episodes of "Star Trek--The Next Generation," they use PADD in a classroom. Since then I've always wanted to use that as means of communication in our education system. Writing and communication could be made more convenient.
It functions as a combinations of a Calculator, Personal Organizer, Library research computer, Electronic Mail, Cod less Phone, Mic, Pager, Cellular,
Personal Identification device, Note Book and so many other things. The biggest advantage and the cutest thing about PADD is that it is just palm size.
