The first published manual on conversing by hand gestures is published by Juan Pablo de Bonet. This is the first written text that allows the teaching of sign language on a wide scale to others. This manual describes the basic hand positions for the alphabet. This publishing helped to get rid of the notion that deaf people were unable to be taught.
