Example Grant Equipment and Resources Section

Below is an example writeup for a Grant Equipment and Resources Section. The grant was one to which Larry Jackson had applied. It may or may not be relavent for your grant needs. It has been modified slightly to bring it up to date. However, the most current version will always be that found at http://www.isrl.uiuc.edu/systems.

If you adopt the systems information for a particular grant on which you are working, please feel encouraged to forward it to us and we will include it here. In this way, the community can work together to build a database of such writeups.

FACILITIES

Computer:

This proposal will utilize computing resources from the
Information Science Research Laboratory (ISRL) at the
Graduate School of Library and Information Science
(GSLIS).

Research systems in ISRL currently include 15 general
servers and several special purpose servers. Most servers
are Linux-based, single- or dual-processor servers. Several single-
or dual-processor Sun Ultra class computers are also maintained.
Currently, there is over a half a terabyte
of data storage available between these systems. A
14-tape DLT jukebox provides regular backups for the data.

A full range of Internet information services are
available on ISRL servers (e.g., e-mail, mailing lists,
news, and remote-access "home directory" file
servers). Project web servers, both production and
experimental, and other workgroup infrastructure (e.g.,
persistent discussion spaces, and other communication
and collaboration facilities) are provided. A variety
of database management systems are also supported.

Researcher workstations, including Intel, Sparc, and
Macintosh hardware, and the Microsoft Windows, Linux,
Solaris, and Mac-OS operating systems are continually
available for all faculty and students.

The ISRL systems are networked on 100 Mb/s Ethernet
using Category 6 wiring. They receive a high-speed
Internet through the University of Illinois campus hub.

Office:

ISRL provides a full compliment of printers, scanners,
CD-ROM production facilities, and LCD projectors. The
lab is located in the newly constructed wing of the
Library and Information Science building at the
University of Illinois.

GSLIS classroom computing lab facilities are available,
with individual Intel or Macintosh computers for each
student. Suitable meeting and conference space is also
available at GSLIS. GSLIS will also provide physical
space for faculty, and for student researchers in both
the ISRL and a doctoral office area.

Other:

None.

MAJOR EQUIPMENT

Special purpose servers at ISRL include a 4-CPU Sun
Enterprise 450 and two Linux-based compute servers.
These compute hosts include expanded
disk arrays and RAM configurations for prototyping
resource-intensive and parallel processing applications.
