ISRL Systems Administrators
The goal of the ISRL technical staff is to provide a flexible, scalable, and
reliable infrastructure for GSLIS information systems researchers and
service projects to accomplish their goals. This infrastructure is
constantly evolving. In trying to implement this infrastructure, we
are conducting experiments in how to effectively develop and maintain
a customer-managed network.
The personnel that make up the technical staff include:
Martin Wolske,
Manager of Research Systems
- Martin is a full time academic professional. Martin's background
is in Behavioral Neurosciense, having received his Ph.D. at Rutgers
in the field in 1993. His curriculum vita can be found at
http://www.isrl.uiuc.edu/~mwolske/cv.html.
Martin's major duties and responsibilities include:
- Facilitate cooperation with other providers of Information Technology
services within GSLIS, within the University, and within the
community to maximize mutual effectiveness.
- To manage and train the staff, University students, and volunteers who
assist in the management of the servers, services, and underlying
network infrastructure used by GSLIS research and outreach programs,
including the full-time Computer Systems Specialist.
- Provide basic network training to LIS students through assigned courses
as well as one-on-one training opportunities.
- To stay apraised of, and to investigate, new technologies that might
apply to the field of information science.

Unix-based server infrastructure for GSLIS's
ISRL and
Prairienet Community Network.
- To implement and maintain core Internet services that use the
Unix-based systems.
- To assist in the management of the GSLIS and Prairienet networks
- To provide overall ongoing infrastructure-level technical support of
servers, services, and the underlying network for GSLIS research and
outreach projects.
- Provide targetted technical support for ISRL and Prairienet as needed.
