Below is the output from two traceroutes as well as some descriptive text regarding how to interpret this output. Traceroute displays the hops data must travel on the Internet between routers to pass from source to destination. Each line represents one hop.
Asterisks reported instead of times in the display below are an indication that a packet is taking more than 2 seconds to travel between routers. Each line indicates one more routed segment a packet takes between site of origination and destination.
If asterisks are being displayed on line one, then GSLIS's connection from the building to the first router (the gateway) is having a problem. If astericks are occuring over the next several hops, then the University is having problems with it's network. Either way, CITES should already be working on the problem. If astericks occur later on in the traceroute, then the problem is elsewhere on the Internet.
This is a traceroute to the place at CITES that we get our information on Internet names and Internet addresses. If this fails, then anything that depends on that information is probably also having problems
