The NPAC Visible Human Viewer permits browsing of the visible human database from the (U.S.) National Institutes of Health. The original Java applet can be viewed with any Java-capable Web browser and was subsequently adapted to the NCSA Habanero API. The result is a collaborative application which the control panel appears on all the collaborators workstations. Using that control panel, the collaborating team can request image retrieval from the database, such as this cross section. All collaborators will see the same imagery and collaborative imagery annotation will be possible in the very near future. This collaborative version of the NPAC Visible Human Viewer was created to support discussions between medical professionals, and allow the use of the visible human database in a virtual classroom setting.
Version 1.0 Beta 3 introduced the capability to annotate the Visible Human image using the Habanero Whiteboard.
This software (bytecode only) is included in the NCSA Habanero distribution package as a technology demonstration.
Authors: Michael Chang and Paul Coddington of the Northeast Parallel Architecture Center at Syracuse University created the original Applet. The collaborative capability and the annotation features were added by the NCSA Habanero Team.
