Checkers

Checkers was created as a source code demonstration application. This demonstration vehicle includes the ability to enforce legality of moves and turn-taking through NCSA Habanero's central Arbitrator facility. Further, resource locking mechanisms have been developed in order to support the implementation of turn-taking. State examination code examples have been written, such as is necessary to handle game-start logistics, to determine a winner, or to disallow illegal moves. These resource management facilities will have many different types of applications, but are handily demonstrated in this classic game.
