Quick Start Example

Background Information

This quick start example helps you get a hablet up and running quickly. You may skip this page and go directly to Habanerizing a Java Applet if you prefer.

After finishing this example, you should read the tutorial on Habanerizing a Java Applet for more detailed information.
ALERT
This quick start assumes that Habanero is already installed on your machine. If not, download and install it[Outside link]

How does this work?

To see a running version of the original applet, see the TextDemo Example.
  1. Make a new directory in the apps directory under your Habanero installation directory called TextDemo. Put HabTextDemo.java there and compile it.
  2. Put TextDemoIcon.gif in rsc/env/co_images.
  3. Put textdemo.properties into habanero.rsc/toolsDir/. (In UNIX this directory is the copy in your home directory, not the original in the Habanero installation directory.)
After you start up HabaneroServer and Habanero as detailed in the Habanero User's Guide[Outside link] you can use the TextDemo hablet. To test things in single-user mode, tell the client to use local as the server.
